Drawing the human figure

Wednesday mornings

Life drawing is a traditional practice in art history where we draw the naked human form. In this class we will be drawing a variety of poses and utilising different drawing techniques and skills to create interesting drawings. 

 

Some of these will include  pencil, charcoal, coloured pencil, pen and ink and pastels. 

You will be required to bring some art materials with you . A list will be given to you on enquiry. All paper, easels and other extras are included.

Drawing from Art History  

Wednesday evening

In this course we will be looking at different styles of drawing throughout art history and learning the different techniques to replicate them. We will be using charcoal, sanguine sticks, pastels and pen and ink.

We shall look at Da Vinci and other Florentine artists, Edgar Degas,Charles Bargue, Van Gogh, Picasso 

You will be required to bring some art materials with you . A list will be given to you on enquiry. All paper, easels and other extras are included.

Beginners oil painting 

 

Thursday evening

7-9pm 

24th October to 12th December

In this class we will look at the the basics in painting with oil. We will cover what it means to paint "alla prima" , how to dead colour and the basics in glazing.We will explore colour mixing and explore how the paint works on the surface of the canvas.

You will be required to bring some art materials with you . A list will be given to you on enquiry. All paper, easels and other extras are included.

Painting the portrait 

Wednesday evenings

7-9pm 

22nd January -5th February

19th February-1st April 

10 week block

In this class you will learn how to paint a portrait using acrylic or oil paint. You will be taught the traditional way of underpainting and glazing and a more modern stylistic way. We will also look at the grid method of drawing. This is a great way for beginners to feel confident in their drawing and not be overwhelemed by the tricky subject of the portrait. 

We will be working from photgraphs as opposed to a live model for this particular course. 

You are required to bring a set of oils or acrylics with yo uand a set of brushes. All canvas and other equipment is provided for.

Watercolour, painting the still life

Thursday evenings

In this course you will explore different ways to paint the still life with watercolours. we will be painting folds in fabric, flowers, fruit and other objects. Learn how to use wet on wet, wet on dry, masking fluid, dry brushing and more to create your paintings. 

You are required to bring a set of watercolour paints and brushes with you to the course. All paper and other materials are provided for.

Beginners Acrylic Painting 

wednesday evenings

April 22nd -May 27th, June 10th -1st July 

10 week course

In this course you will learn how to create a painting of a still life using arcylic paint, You will learn about the brushes used, colour mixing,layering paint , surfaces and grounds and how to use tone to make your painting look 3 dimensional.

You are required to bring as et of acrylic paints and brushes with you. All canvas and other materials are proided for.

Understanding colour mixing for  watercolours 

Thursday  evenings

7-9pm 

April 23rd -28th May, June 11th -2nd July 

10 week course

In this course you will learn all about the colour wheel and how to utilise it in your paintings to create more intersting, atmospheric watercolours. We will look at warm and cool colours, analogous, monochromatic, achromatic, polychromatic and complimentary colours. 

You will need to bring a set of paints and brushes with you. All watercolour paper and extras are provided for.
