Urban landscape in watercolour

In this class you will learn techniques used in creating atmospheric, urban landscapes scenes. You will learn to use wet on wet, wet on dry, using a credit card to paint buildings, rainy day scene, adding people, brick work in context. You will have a chance to develop these techniques into your own chosen images.

Drawing the naked figure (life drawing)

Venue: Holy Trinity Church Halls, Queens Terrace St Andrews. 

This is a weekly life drawing class for any level of student. It is great to be able to draw the human body from life and learn about proportion, line, tone and movement. Each week we have some short and long poses using a variety of art materials.

You will need to bring a supply of art materials. Basic papers, easels and drawing boards are provided for but feel free to bring any supplies of your own.

Anatomy Drawing

Painting landscape with acrylics. 

Thursday 7-9pm 

27th October - 15th December 

8 week block

Venue: Holy Trinity Church Halls, Queens Terrace, St Andrews. 

In this course you will learn different techniques to creating landscape paintings using acrylic paint. You will learn how to paint clouds, trees, water, rocks and build up some small practice studies before embarking on a larger acrylic painting of your own landscape. I will be doing demonstrations throughout the course and we will be working from these demonstrations and from photographs. This call will not be painting outside. 

A materials list will be emailed along with the course handout upon sign up and payment.

Exploring Inks 

Wednesday 7-9pm 

January 11th - 22nd March ( No class 15th Feb) 

10 week block

Online via Zoom 

In this course you will learn different techniques drawing and painting with inks. You will learn how to use a nibbed pen to create tonal studies, crosshatching and line drawings. You will create a variety of pen and wash studies using coloured and monochromatic inks. We will  experiment with felt pens and use water to create paint. We will also look at some of art histories master like Rembrandt and Van Gogh to see how he utilised inks.

Drawing through art history 

 

Thursday  1-3pm

January 12th - 23rd March ( no class 16th Feb)

10 week block

Venue: Holy Trinity Church Halls, Queens Terrace St Andrews. 

This class takes a look at the techniques used by certain artists throughout art history. We shall look at Davinci and using silverpoint and sanguine, Rembrandt and ink drawing with hatching and cross hatching, Edgar Degas and using pastels, Van Goghs unique mark making and thinking like Picasso in using childlike thinking.

Painting landscape with a palette knife (with acrylics or oils)

Thursday 7-9pm 

January 12th -23rd March ( No class on 16th Feb) 

10 week block 

£180 

Venue: Holy Trinity Church Halls, Queens Terrace, St Andrews

In this course you will learn how to paint with a palette knife in your chosen medium of oils or acrylics. You will produce a variety of smaller studies to practice and get used to using the knives and work towards a larger scale canvas. You will learn how to layer paint, paint impasto and sgraffito. We will be using landscape images as our inspiration.

Understanding colour with watercolours 

Wednesday 7-9pm

In this class you will work with the colour wheel to understand colour mixing and colour combinations. You will learn about the different names of tubes/pans of colour and what that means. We will look at some works by famous artists and how they used colour to give impact to their paintings. This is a great class for any level of artist.

In this class you will learn all of the basic techniques needed to get you started in  watercolours. You will learn about different brushes, papers, wet on dry, wet on wet and many more techniques to build up your watercolour painting.

Sketching outdoors

20th April -22nd June

In and around St Andrews 

In this class we will be on site, on different locations in and around St Andrews. Every week we will tackle different scenes, including street, harbour, forest, foliage, close ups scenes. We will utilise a wide range of sketching materials and help you improve your observation and sketching skills. 

This class is for all levels.
